Must-Haves for Organizing Your Art Room

by perducoeducation

The art room is a space for creativity, inspiration, and exploration. It’s also a space with the potential for chaos without an effective organization system and the tools to keep supplies in order. Make this the year that your art room is as neat as it is engaging for your students. Use this list of teacher favorite and must-have storage products for the art room as your inspiration.

Creating an Art Room Organization Map

The art room is constantly transitioning between classes of students and art projects. To keep the supplies and in-process projects in order, it is important to create an organized plan of action.

One way to ensure a tidier art room is to create a storage & organization map. This map will not only serve as a resource for students who are helping to clean up at the end of class. It can also be an excellent way to give a substitute teacher a better idea of how to keep things running smoothly.

Creating a map at the beginning of the year is a great start. Once you have all your supplies and tools tucked in their individual locations, you can create a chart (or several) that help you and others to remember where things belong.

As the year progresses, you may find it necessary to create new maps as projects and supplies are transitioned in and out of frequent use. Depending on the age of your students, your map may also need to be more frequently updated or offer more visual assistance to ensure that you and any young helpers can find what they need.

Be sure to emphasize the importance of following the map when taking out supplies or putting them away. Not only will this help you to keep your art room organized throughout the day, but it may help students to feel more responsible for caring for their art room space.
